Pet adoption fees will be waived on Empty the Shelter Day;
Saturday's event is the largest pet adoption in North Texas
What: Dallas Animal Services will join other area animal shelters to participate in Empty the Shelter Day Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adoption fees will be waived and approximately 5,000 pets will be available for adoption at 33 North Texas-area shelters in this seven-hour period. (Other fees and participating shelter times may vary). Empty the Shelter Day is sponsored by NBC 5 and Telemundo 39, and is made possible through a generous grant from the ASPCA.
When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 (participating shelter times may vary)
Where: Find participating shelters, locations, hours, adoption policies and other information at www.emptytheshelter.org.
Why: Summer is a tough time. Puppies and kittens born during springtime are ready for adoption. Also during summer months, owners move or go on vacation and many surrender their pets to shelters for adoption. To address the overcrowding problem and to help these beautiful animals, municipal and nonprofit shelters joined to waive adoption fees on this one special day.
