3. Applying for the 8(a) Program The 8(a) program is for socially and economically disadvantaged small business owners. If you have questions as to if you qualify for the program, please call Gary Alexander at 314-539-6612. Dennis Melton, SBA's St. Louis District Director, notes, "The 8(a) Program can provide a tremendous boost to a company's government sales. SBA staff works closely with 8(a) companies to help them navigate the contracting process and some contracts can only be bid on by those in the 8(a) Program."
