On Tuesday, Secretary Jacob J. Lew traveled to Davenport, Iowa to highlight the Obama Administration's commitment to fostering economic growth, expanding opportunity, and investing in advanced manufacturing.  During his time there, Secretary Lew toured Alcoa's Davenport Works facility, which is central to Alcoa's aerospace and automotive business.  The Davenport facility employs more than 2,400 people, and has been at the forefront of American manufacturing for decades.

The 130-acre facility is also home to the world's largest aluminum rolling mill, and produces military-grade aluminum that will be used in the all-new Ford F-150 and reduces the truck by 700 pounds.  Alcoa recently announced a $300 million state-of-the art expansion that will create an additional 150 full-time jobs and help meet increasing demand for aluminum in the automotive industry.

In an interview with the Quad-City Times while in Iowa, Secretary Lew said, "what I saw today represents so much of what we are trying to accomplish."

During remarks at last week's White House Rural Opportunity Investment Conference, Secretary Lew reflected on the role the manufacturing sector is playing in our recovery, , "Whether it's light manufacturing, advanced manufacturing or traditional manufacturing, production of goods is taking place throughout rural America."

The Secretary also met with business and community leaders for a roundtable discussion on the state of the economy hosted by the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce.  Later in the day, he sat down for lunch with an Alcoa employee who has worked at the facility for ten years and learned more about his experiences working in the manufacturing sector.
